Do you know that as you get older, the flexible crystalline lenses in your eyes become stiffer? This stiffness makes it difficult for the lens to deform its shape to suit the distance you are aiming to look at. Recent technology advances have provided different solutions to correct presbyopia by offering several types of glasses and contact lenses.
Yet, these forms of correction all have shortcomings. To overcome these shortcomings and achieve the optimal adjustment to the correction lens, a research team — led by Gordon Wetzstein at Stanford University — designed focus-tunable eyeglasses called autofocals. The researchers used two infrared-sensitive cameras to determine the relative angle between the eyes — known as vergence. This angle is directly related to the depth at which the viewer is focusing Science Advances In other words, one camera records the location of everything in the outside world and the other camera faces the eyes to track where they are looking.
The research team built a wearable prototype that combines electronically controlled liquid lenses enclosed in glass and metal with two chambers separated by a membrane, a wide field-of-view depth camera and binocular eye tracking. The flexibility of the membrane is achieved by pushing the liquid lens into or out of the two chambers. The team compared their autofocal design against progressive and monovision lenses using metrics including visual acuity sharpness , contrast sensitivity and refocusing rate.
In order to account for near- and far-sight correction or astigmatism, the team used an offset lens to test a wide variety of conditions in a wide variety of people. The researchers concluded that focus-tunable eyeglasses perform better than or at least comparable to progressives and monovisions in terms of visual acuity and contrast sensitivity, and enable faster and more accurate adjustments in focus.

Completely revised, updated, and redesigned, this classic dictionary by Dr. Michel Millodot continues to be an essential resource for all optometrists in training and in practice, as well as residents in ophthalmology. It is also a crucial source of information for anyone involved in vision science and in the optical industry. It now includes many new entries on pathology, pharmacology, investigative techniques, visual perception, optics and contact lenses.

The transaction brings together HVC's long-standing expertise in the manufacturing and distribution of high performance contact lenses with Clerio's innovative product pipeline. HVC, founded in , is best known for its Extreme H2O product line and its multiple differentiated offerings that personalize the contact lens wearing experience. For instance, HVC offers lenses in multiple diameters, with smaller lenses to more comfortably fit those with smaller corneas or narrower eyelids, and larger lenses for those with larger corneas or for improved sports performance. HVC also distributes the only disposable opaque color contacts for those with astigmatism. Clerio was founded in to commercialize breakthrough femtosecond laser research at the University of Rochester. The company's technology enables the laser writing of unique patterns into contact lenses that optimize visual acuity, including superior correction at both far and near distances for those with presbyopia. Clerio's multifocal contact lens product is currently in clinical development and is expected to be on the market in the next 18 months. HVC products are sold in 25 countries, either under the Extreme H2O brand or under one of several private label arrangements.

A contact lens , or simply contact , is a thin lens placed directly on the surface of the eye. Contact lenses are ocular prosthetic devices used by over million people worldwide, and they can be worn to correct vision , for cosmetic , or therapeutic reasons. People choose to wear contact lenses for many reasons. When compared with spectacles, contact lenses typically provide better peripheral vision, and do not collect moisture from rain, snow, condensation etc. This can make them preferable for sports and other outdoor activities.

ARC lenses are at the forefront of eyewear innovation, bringing together the most sophisticated technology with state of the art Freeform lens design. Whether you spend a lot of time at a pc or your hobbies involve small, detailed close- up work, ARC lenses will suit you perfectly. With the gradual change of prescription through the lens, the reading area is at a comfortable user level for the eye and is easy to find and use. The reading area is also wider in ARC lenses, giving readers more space for viewing. In the past, varifocal wearers may have found it difficult to get used to the varying strengths on their glasses, ARC lens technology is easy to use, with a very low rate of non-tolerance. The reading and distance area prescriptions are now more accurate than ever. This means vision is crystal clear through an ARC lens. The new technology gives a sharper, high definition image and clarity at a level never seen before. Multiple focal points on the lens each measured and tailored for your vision, giving you the best possible sight. These unique measurements mean that ARC lenses are truly tailored to you.
When eye safety is a concern, polycarbonate or Trivex lenses usually are the best choice for your eyeglasses , sunglasses and sports eyewear. Both polycarbonate and Trivex lenses are thinner and lighter than regular plastic lenses. They also offer percent protection from the sun's harmful UV light and are up to 10 times more impact-resistant than plastic or glass lenses. This combination of lightweight comfort, UV protection and impact resistance also makes these lenses an excellent choice for children's glasses and safety glasses.
